The active ingredients in paint give off an odor. From a health standpoint, it is better to open your paints outside. Open the paints outside and leave them to air for a while.

Read the instructions on the paint tin carefully.

Then add the thinners that came with the paint as specified in the description. Do not add lots of water to make more paint or lighten its color. This will harm the paint’s composition and prevent you from getting the ideal color.

Safety first! Turn off the mains electricity before you start painting!

Make sure the surface to be painted is even before you start painting. Old paint and dampness can cause bumps and blisters making the wall rough and uneven. Holes and cracks can also form. Fill in the holes and cracks with putty and sandpaper the wall to make it smooth and even. This will leave you with a smooth finish after painting.

Do not paint damp walls. Paint does not stick to wet surfaces as desired and will not last.
You should use a brush first when starting to paint.

Do not use a roller in places that require fine workmanship such as window ledges, wall bottoms, and plug sockets. Cover window ledges and sockets with masking tape if necessary. Masking tape will not harm the surface. You can remove it with no fuss. After it has been removed, you can apply one coat of paint using a thin brush so there is no difference in the paint’s color.

Dip the end of the brush less than 1 cm into the paint then brush it on the wall working back and forth. That way, you won’t leave any brush marks.

If you’re going to use a roller, dip it lightly into the paint. Roll it across the paint so it picks up the paint evenly. You can also use a paint grid when using a roller. The grid will remove surplus paint.

Then, thinly spread the paint on the wall. The first coat should be thin. Start painting from the edge of the ceiling. Use a small, thin brush for this. A long handle will make things easier.

Make sure the first coat is thin so it dries quickly. Wait for it to dry. (The instructions on the tin tell you how long to wait.) Do not paint before the drying time is up or a long time later.

Use the same method as above when applying the second coat. The only difference is that the second coat can be a little thicker. If the second coat is applied too thick, it could crack when it dries.

Remove the masking tape from the window ledges and plug sockets after you have finished painting and before it dries. You can touch up the areas where the masking tape was with a brush so there is no color difference.
